B 4.2. Bound parchment

Damage to bound parchments is characterised by a series of features. Intact bindings and strong cover boards helped to significantly protect the contents block comprised of parchment sheets from external influences. Usually, the external edges of the sheets and the first and last pages of the block are soiled, deformed and damaged. If the covers of the volume have been damaged, then the changes to the contents block are noteworthy.
