C 5. Changes related to conservation

Parchment with characteristics of prior repair or conservation.

Historical parchments have often been repaired and conserved several times. Various methods and materials have been used for this through time, which has changed the appearance of the parchments. Regardless of whether the prior repairs have benefited the preservation of the parchment or not, these changes must definitely be documented as significant C5 attributes. It is recommended that any damage caused by prior repairs or conservation be documented as sub-category C5.1
