B 4.1. Unbound parchment
Parchment documents were usually folded when stored. Therefore, single-page documents, unlike bound codices and parchment with covers, are more severely damaged. The parchments have clearly distinguishable fold lines and deformations characteristic of folding; the exteriors of folded documents are more soiled/damaged.

The parchment has clearly distinguishable fold lines and the characteristic deformation of the parchment sheet when folded. The stiffened parchment has deformed and lost its original shape. As a result, the sheet of parchment is no longer flat when unfolded.
